Pimp My Pie: Steak n Cheese n Bacon Pie

in #teamaustralia7 years ago (edited)

Hello Team Australia and welcome to the second installment of Pimp My Pie.

Today we'll be cooking a truly awesome pie: the Steak n Cheese n Bacon pie.

This pie goes by various names depending on the bakehouse you frequent, but this particular naming formula just rolls of the tongue ...

Go on, say it a few times: Steak n cheese n bacon pie, steak n cheese n bacon pie, STEAK N CHEESE N BACON PIE!

Ingredients:

  • 4 Sargent's Traditional Meat Pies
  • 6 rashers short cut bacon
  • 150g of your favourite Aussie cheese
  • 1/2 tomato (optional)

Method:

  • Pre-heat oven to 170 degrees C. (160 fan forced)
  • Give your pies a quick rinse under the tap - this ensures they don't become too dehydrated and remain soft and tasty
  • Place your pies on to a baking tray and into the oven
  • Pan fry your bacon in some olive oil, lightly browning - dice when done
  • Thinly slice half of your favourite cheese, dice or grate remaining half
  • Remove your pies from the oven after 20m and remove lids with a serrated knife
  • Mix through diced bacon and diced/grated cheese (Steak will not quite be cooked through yet)
  • Replace lids on pies and top with tomato (optional) and thinly sliced cheese
  • Return pies to the oven for another 20m, cheese topping should be crispy and brown (grill briefly if necessary)
  • Garnish with some basil or sage and serve with your favourite sauce

These pies are incredibly tasty and surprisingly filling due to the extra bacon and cheese, a side of carrots and peas should suffice for the dinner table.

Got beef with bacon? Simply replace the bacon in this recipe with some diced haloumi or capsicum for a pie to please folks of any religion!

We hope you've enjoyed the second installment of Pimp My Pie. Don't miss next week's installment where we break a few eggs and bang out a Ned Kelly.

Nice.
Your an ideas man bulleth.
Ive always wanted to try a pie floater (Pie in pea soup) but never have.
Supposed to be popular in SA .

Bahahaha that is classic, not the most appetizing name. Usually try to avoid tasting floaters when I'm out in the surf.
