Learning Basic Journalism with Serambi Indonesia Journalists

Every Saturday weekend now always makes me excited. Now I am taking a class Learning to Write from the Basri Daham Journalism Institute (BJI) Alliance of Independent Journalists (AJI) Lhokseumawe City class VII.

The backgrounds that learn are very diverse, there are students, academics, from teachers as well as consultants. The place of study is in the Unimal postgraduate building. After last week, we learned about the journalistic code of ethics. This time it was about the basics of journalism. The one who taught this time was Jafaruddin, the bureau chief of Serambi Indonesia Lhokseumawe.

I myself attended this learning class not so that I could become a journalist, but rather, I realized that I could not write. With my work in village empowerment, it is a loss not to be able to write about unique things in the village. Even though there are quite a lot of success stories in the village community that can be educated.

Why write. Saidina Ali once said that if we are not the son of a king, then write. Or another expression if we want our names to be immortal, then write.

The fast track to writing is to become a journalist. Journalism is a noble job. What distinguishes journalists from netizens. The difference is in the code of ethics. Journalists have a code of ethics, while netizens do not. Journalists' works are published in the mass media, while netizens spread through social media such as TikTok.

There are so many stories of changes made because of journalist reporting, be it criminalism, harassment, or even corruption. Once one of the perpetrators of corruption asked for forgiveness not to publish the news because his child was embarrassed not to dare to go to school due to the news that went up and up.

Nowadays, being a journalist is very easy. In the past, it was very difficult to gather news, you had to go to the place where the news information was obtained, thankfully you had an acquaintance of the village head. Because back then there was no android like now, we still used massage through BBM. That's why collecting keuchik contact numbers used to be very difficult.

Back to the topic at hand. The definition of journalism can be seen from three angles, namely literally, conceptually, and practically. From a literal point of view, journalism is journalism or writing.

Meanwhile, from a conceptual point of view, journalism is a process, technique and science. Searching is the main thing in the process, then the news is processed and written, then circulated and published in the media.

From a practical point of view, journalism is the process of making news or information and disseminating it through mass media such as newspapers, online, and television.

From a practical point of view we can understand that journalists have four interdependent components, namely information, preparation of information, dissemination of information and the last is the mass media. We were also briefly explained several types of news that exist today such as Straight News, Hard news, Soft news, Depth news, Investigation news, and others.

At the end, we were explained about the characteristics of good news. How is news said to be good The characteristics of good news are that it must be interesting, factual, and easy to understand using simple sentences.
