Rich Belgians hid billions of euros in Luxembourg

Sixty of the 100 richest Belgians set up fictitious companies in Luxembourg to avoid taxes. The affair is blessed by former Prime Minister Yves Leterme and dozens of companies. In front of the Belgian tax authorities, 48 billion euros were hidden in this way.

As a result of several months of investigation, journalists were able to determine that 60 of the 100 richest people in Belgium set up at least one company in Luxembourg in order to avoid taxation. Dozens of Belgian companies and private persons are also involved in the scandal. On the list according to both Belgian dailies are to be influential politicians, artists and athletes. Of the 50 richest families in Belgium, eight out of ten have companies registered in the Grand Duchy.

The scandal published on Tuesday by two newspapers is another chapter of the huge tax affair related to Luxembourg.
