Hahaha... the colors just went through you! Hmmm... I think that the difference between frostings and buns that may lead to foodborne illness is: Frostings are not heated with the may-have-been contaminated colors were mixed in prior to frosting the cake, and in addition cakes sometimes just sits at room temperature. The colors in the buns are mixed into the dough and then baked at high temperatures, and cooking/baking makes food safe(r).
