Yen Ai - Authentic Chinese Herbal & Dessert Shop
I remembered when I used to work in Lintas Plaza, I'd always come to Yen Ai Dessert & Herbal Tea and tried their Sea Coconut with Longan Soup. That was like 6 or 7 years ago when the shop is still with their open concept.
Now with a renovated interior, the atmosphere is more comfortable and inviting.
Established in 1988, Yen Ai Dessert & Herbal Tea is quite popular in Kota Kinabalu specialized in serving Chinese herbal tea, sweet soup and dessert. And not only that, they also served comfort food such as nasi lemak wrapped in banana leaves, peanut chicken dumpling, fried meehoon, curry fishballs, and others.
During our recent Steemit Meetup at a local restaurant in Lintas, I took the chance to visit Yen Ai Dessert & Herbal Tea (the shop is just across the street) and ordered for takeaway a Black Glutinous Rice with Coconut Milk for myself and Lemongrass Jasmine Jelly - a Chinese herbal jelly for my little boy at home.
RM5.50 (USD 1.40)
The Black Glutinous Rice with Coconut Milk is known to nourish the blood, replenish the body and moisten the intestines and lumps while the herbal jelly is known to be a perfect cure for dry skin and makes your skin glowing.
I love the taste of the coconut milk and it mixed well with the Black Glutinous Rice. It has a mild sweet taste and to be honest, it is quite addictive. Lol.
RM 4.50 (USD 1.10) for 2 pieces.
However, I did not have the chance to try the herbal jelly since my boy finished it up within second as soon I passed it to him. But one thing I realized is that it has a quite strong smell of lemongrass. Luckily, my boy likes it very much despite the smell.
This place often packed especially at night with families and friends. Sometimes, you need to wait and queue for a table until it's available and people seems don't mind waiting. I guess everyone needs their herbal concoction that supposedly provides our body that extra needs.
Beside in Lintas Plaza, they do have another branch, a small shop in Borneon Center, Luyang, Kota Kinabalu.
