Pasties are one of my favorite things to snack on in England but they sure are hit and miss. Even in Cornwall surpisingly. But when you get a good meaty one that is moist with a nice flaky crust... best thing ever. One of those things you cannot really get over here.
It's years since I visited Cornwall.., and even then never had a pastie there. I associate 'down there' more with Cream-Teas.. though that's really Devon. I could never find Pastie's in the US, though @bozz reckons they do exist.
I make myself sick on scones with clotted cream.. I am almost glad they don't sell them here. I am an addict. hehe
The closest thing I've seen here to Pasties are Mexican actually.. Empanadas (which originated in Spain and are quite possible related to pasties somehow). I've heard that they also exist in areas where there were/are mining communities.
