Filipino sinigang at Shokudo Donburi

I have been passing by this Jaka Plaza once in a while but I never noticed this restaurant until this week when I was leisurely passing by and thinking of where to eat.
The front side is showing only the entrance as they have what seemed to be a takeaway counter which is blocking the right side.
What intrigued me was the "Filipino" portion on the description below the restaurant's name. Filipino dish in a Japanese restaurant? Let's give it a try!
The place looked cozy and clean when I got in. It was air-conditioned inside but the door was wide open. "What a big waste of electricity and money!" I thought. I did not count the tables but it is less then ten and only two were occupied. "Not many people eat out tonight," I thought again.

All the tables have glass top and under the glasses are these two menus. I wonder what's special with these that they are the ones on the tables.

I took the table at the right corner. While I was looking at the menus under the glass, a guy, one of the crew came with a more complete menu.

I was curious about their Filipino dish so I ordered sinigang na bangus. It is milkfish in a sour and savory stew with vegetables. The order already comes with a cup of rice so I thought it is good. Though with the price of P138.00 (US $2.64), I thought the serving could be big and good for two so I asked the waiter. He said it is indeed for single serving. A little pricey but let's give it a try. I also ordered red tea for my drinks. It costs P48.00 (US $ 0.92).
While I was waiting for my order, I noticed this dessert list in a tissue holder. They look tempting and refreshing for a lunch or daytime drink.

After a while my drink was served. Oh, the canister is cute! 😊 I tasted it and it is so sweet. Well, too sweet or too sour for me is just right for many so I guess that's okay.

Few more minutes and here comes my meal. The cup of rice was bigger than usual serving. The bowl of sinigang stew was also a bit bigger than for single serving. I checked what are in the stew and noticed fairly enough coubt of vegetables in it - eggplant, okra, tomatoes and raddish. However, there wete stil few of them that the stew appeared to be more of just a soup than a stew. The square plate was not clear dried. It was wet on its corners and I did not like it so I asked them to replace it. They replaced it with green plate which I did not take photo of anymore. I just started eating. 😊

The stew tasted just right in terms of its sourness but I woulf really love to have more vegetables in it. The rice was what amazed me. It was so tender and aromatic. It is not like ordinary rice that they serve in restaurants. I can not say if it is really yhe Milagrosa rice variety but tasted and smells like it.
I did not yet ask for it but a lady crew came serving a pitcher of water and a glass with ice tubes. Proactive service. Now, that's a bonus!
Overall, the food and service were just okay with the price. Maybe I will have a "wow" experience next time.

TrufflePigAmazing! Fililino dish adapted in a Japanese resto. That is unique. I like the look at the colored drink with the jar. So cute!
