Il Padrino: Sweets right at the heart of Baguio
This is always at my list when I wanted to have something sweet either cake or frappe or just for coffee or tea. They do have other food on their menu like pasta, rice meals, pizza, etc. More often though, I am here for sweets. Their menu has multiple pages of what they serve. This is not just a cafe but more of a restaurant. They also have on their menu locally inspired choices.
Because it is conveniently located along Session Road, it is easy to get to it. It is in between going up to SM or going down to People's Park. It is not too far from wherever you wanted to go elsewhere within the city.
Although the place is not that spacious, seating has enough room to move around and get comfortable. The photo above reminds me one of my favorite Nat Geo photographers, Yen Baet, although I am not sure if those were hers. That photo can be seen at the lower ground floor. The mezzanine has more photos of how Baguio looks like before. I prefer sitting at the lower ground because it can get warm on the mezzanine. Also, I like watching people pass by so I prefer seating by the window.
We ordered brownie s'mores and ube cake. Every bite of either gets a reprimand from my dentist. The s'mores has different texture to it and each layer gives you a combination of sweetness of different levels to almost bitter which I like. The chewy marshmallows to the easy crumbling crust is a play my palate likes. The ube cake is creamy and tasty, very ube (purple yam) in taste. It is moist and almost like melts in your mouth. Goodness in a slice!
As if that is not enough, I ordered a tall glass of coffee frappe.
I like the coffee jelly that was added. It gives your mouth something to play with as you pause yourself for the next sip or the next bite to your cake. It has a vanilla ice cream on top sprinkled with cinnamon. All these different tastes just take you on a trip.
Overall, it is a nice place. The seats and ambiance are comfy and warm. Staff is great and approachable. Food is good. Location is convenient. Price is competitive to pricey.
Il Padrino is located at 87 Antipolo Building, Session Road, Baguio City. They also have other branches in other places here in the country. You can check out their page at Il Padrino. They are open from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. This is beside Tea House and Green Smoothie near the stairs of Baguio Cathedral.
