Jai Hind review - Cannot believe it took me a whole year to find this gem of a place

Most days at work, I have lunch with a colleague of mine. He gets food from home so I haven't had much chance to explore and review a new restaurant. That changed today, and boy o' boy, did I find an absolute gem.

We asked another colleague of ours for recommendations and he suggested Jai Hind. We took a long winded route but reached the place finally. Air conditioned, the place was already making us happy in the humid weather.

The place was busy, but didn't make us wait, may be because it would be considered an expensive place for lunch.

Those vacant places were soon filled.

The menu is fairly long but I want to highlight and recommend 2 parts, Thalis - an assortment of dishes, perfect for lunch, and the local dishes page. This gives the option to try some different culinary styles, rest of the menu can be had and seen anywhere else.

Staff was very helpful in explaining the local dishes to us. We ordered a Sookha Chicken, Dal Tadka, Tandoori rotis. We decided against the thali, even though we were first tempted to eat that because a couple of items on it weren't something we wanted to have.

The food, freshly prepared, came in 20 minutes.

We both had the first bite, and went quiet. Ever felt that when you taste something absolutely awesome. It was that feeling for us. 5 minutes into eating, bothered by the silence, i said to my friend that the food is nice. All he did was nod and toom another bite of the succulent chicken.

So how was the food? Perfect is one way to put it and it does the job in one word.

The rotis were soft, and fresh from the oven, as it should be. Lentil, or dal tadka, was so good. Tadka was just so different from anything I have had before. It had some spice thaf I couldn't identify, but it was made to go with roti. Also, tadka was done in ghee, so added such a rich taste and texture to dal. I think, looking at pic, I think it was burnt dried chillie that made the difference.

The best dish was sookha chicken. The gravy was thick, and the chicken was clean and perfectly cooked. I wil surely look up the recipe because it didn't taste like regular chicken curry. It wasn't hot, as in chillie hot, and the curry was a flavour bomb in my mouth.

The food cost us $5 per head. Easy on pocket, ideal portions, and big on taste and flavour, I'm surely going to visit this place more often.
