Scrambled cottage cheese with Pav Mumbai style - A review

Mumbai is food heaven. India's bustling financial capital offers many delights. Another thing, it's home to a lot of rich Gujaratis and sects from Trading community who are primarily vegetarian. Therefore, there is a lot of excellent vegetarian food to be found here.

I have chose this particular dish because while you can find paneer dishes at many places, both in India and overseas, I have rarely seen Paneer Bhurji being served overseas. And that too with Pav. Therefore I present this truly Indian dish in this contest.

I had a client meeting today so lunch was quite late, around 4 PM. I went to a newly renovated place called Caterico.

The menu is very local Mumbai and unlike what you'll see in many other Indian cities. I opted for Paneer Bhurji with Pav.

The decor was trying to be chic and is probably the best compared to any other place on the street.

When I lived in London, this was my favourite paneer dish to cook at home. Paneer is Indian Cottage cheese. You basically shallow fry onions and tomatoes and then add grated paneer and spices, and cook for 10 minutes. That is the essence of it. I think the dish may have been inspired from scrambled eggs but as I said, majority of people here are vegetarian.

Wait time was about 10 minutes and I got my dish. got 2 pavs and had one more extra.

What did I think?
The portion size was quite big. For roughly £1, this was a lot of food. Even at local prices, this was good value for money.

The taste was awesome, right spices and not too hot. It was a bit oily though and that wasn't needed. Paneer is itself quite rich, so the oil was more spoiling the taste than anything.

Service was great, there was a young girl serving or rather taking the payment. She was very polite and well spoken and was helping a lot with the menu. 5 stars for her.

The dish was a 4 on 5 and the place a 4.5.

Here is a full picture of the dish.
