Tacos at Orinoco's in Mexico City

Some of you know that we are a Mexican foodie couple, but if not here’s the proof. Today in our weekly choice we present to you some tasty Tacos!

This is Taquería Orinoco a famous place in one of the northern states on Mexico that recently opened their first location here in Mexico City.

I’m kind of a Taco Snob but the other way around. I really hate franchises almost all of them doesn’t know how to make a decent taco but they are clean, have lots of locations, accept credit cards and you can find them in Internet.

But first I need to tell you what is a Taco. A taco is just a tortilla with something inside. It could be meat, vegetables, fish, salsa or you can even made a Taco of Salt (just a little of it).

There’s a lot of specialties of tacos but the most common are the meaty ones just like the ones you can get in the Taquería I’m showing to you.

Here is the menu, it’s short an sweet. The “Sueltos” are plain tacos you can get them of Chicharrón (fried pork crust with some fat an meat, very crunchy), Trompo (pork meat marinated in angels sauce, you can find them also as Taco al Pastor that’s how we call them here in Mexico City) and Res (plain beef meat)

Here’s the Trompo. We call this Trompo because it reminds us of a traditional toy with the same name, form and it also spins (google it if you want to see the toy). Also I can ensure you that every Mexican have dream to bite one o these.

The place looks traditional, its informal and its usually full of people because its trendy now.

Now the food, this is how our table looked.

Now in detail. These are the sauces or salsas, very important for tacos. Some places are famous just for the salsas some of them are very spicy and some are fire in your mouth. The green and the white are safe but the other three you need to be careful.

Tacos de Trompo. Pork marinated in a magic red sauce with chopped onions and some green plant and a slice of pinaple.

This is called a gringa, It’s a flour tortilla with trompo meat and a lot of melted cheese.

Here you can see an avocado taco and one of Res (beef).

Finally this is a costra. It is trompo meat and crunchy cheese. with some crushed potatoes on the side.
