Chocolate & Churros in San Miguel de Allende
Last weekend we went to San Miguel de Allende, a pretty little town close to the center of Mexico, just 3 hours away from Mexico City by car. It is a very touristic place and you can find cheap hotels and also really expensive ones.
But no matter where you stay, you can enjoy this town. One of the things you can enjoy the most is food and in the next weeks we will share with you some of the best things we tried in this little trip.
The first place we’re going to share is “Chocolates y Churros San Agustín”. This is a very traditional place and a must if you are in town. Although it is a cafeteria with a full menu, you just go there for a Hot or Cold Chocolate and some Churros to dip in.
Originally this dessert came from Spain with the conquest and it stayed in the Mexican hearts and menus. Now is a classic and there are many places where you can get them, even in the street.
This particular place is owned by Margarita Gralia a TV soap opera star, and you can be aware of that because all the place is filled with lots of pictures of her. I didn’t take pics of the tables because it was too crowded and didn’t want to take the pictures in the face of others. Also the place is small and a to hot so you might not want to stay in here a lot. If you’re in a hurry or just don´t want to enter, you can ask for take away.
We didn’t knew that the place was too hot so we asked for a table. We order one cold chocolate and one hot. The hot one was a Spanish Chocolate, this is not so sweet, dark and really thick. This is not for everyone, so I encourage people to ask for a softer one.
As a side we ordered a plate of churros. A churro is a fried dough in the form of a stick and covered with some sugar. We usually dip the churro in the chocolate for tastier results.
As a bonus we give you this picture of this church called Saint Miguel Arcangel Parish. It is located just a couple of blocks away from the cafeteria.
