Hotel Casa Awolly (Bar review)
Hi! Here’s my entry to the Tasteem contest Beverages with friends.
This is Hotel Casa Awolly in México City, currently one of the trendiest hot spots in town. Because of that you’ll need to make a reservation otherwise you’ll end up waiting for a long time or standing all the night.
Although it's called a hotel, it's not really a hotel. But it has 4 rooms for private parties, a restaurant in the street floor and a beautiful terrace on the rooftop. For that terrace you need to make the reservation because Fridays and Saturdays it’s fully booked.
Why is so demanded this place?
First of all it’s a really cool place, sorry if I didn’t got nice pictures from it but it’s really dark and that makes really hard to take a lot of pics of the place but it looks like this at night.
We arrived a little early to secure the reservation so we started with a beer. In this photo you can get a glimpse of the place.
My first cocktail was the “Colgado” it has Mezcal, tamarind, pineapple juice, pepper liqueur, and pepper salt on the glass. This was so delicious that I asked 2 of this (is the same of the top picture).
Then I ordered “El Mago” (the magician) containing : Whisky, apple extract, lemon verbena syrup, rosemary and a pinch of lemon. This one jut looks spectacular.
Because we started to feel a little dizzy we asked for some food. Here is a shrimp taco and on the back you can see the “Tigra”, the cocktail of the house. It’s made from mezcal, Dry-Vermouth, matcha tea and citrus juice. This drink was served inside of a mirror case (the triangular thing on the back).
This is cauliflower dish, can’t remember what’s on it. Don’t blame me by this time I was a little drunk.
Finally I ate a “Torta ahogada” a Mexican popular dish, which is basically a pork sandwich, in a Mexican bread, soaked in a spicy sauce and with purple onions on top.
The place is a little expensive but it's worth it for a special occasion.
