Churrería el Moro, a must in Mexico City

Today I want to share this awesome place in Mexico City. It’s called “El Moro” and it is one of my favorite places to go and grab a quick bite in the middle of the day or also to take friends and chat a little.

It’s a very traditional place where you can buy a warm chocolate and some “Churros”. A churro is a dough stick fried in really hot oil and then covered with cinnamon and sugar or just sugar. This kind of dessert is original from Spain but in Latin America is very popular.

Although it is a traditional place, they recently opened many stores around the city, mainly in touristic and crowded places. Even with a lot of stores, many of them are bursting at night. If that’s the case, I recommend you to ask your order To Go to avoid waiting for a table.

They sell different kinds of hot chocolate, my favorite it the “Español (Spanish)” it is not for everyone because is really thick, almost like a melted chocolate bar you can see in the pictures how it just sticks into the churro. I just love it, it’s like a chocolate sauce. But if you’re not into that level of sweet you can ask for almost anything else in the beverages menu.

Another thing they sell in this place is the “Consuelo”. This is basically an ice-cream sandwich but with round shape churros. I noticed this is very popular among foreign tourist, I don’t know why but they ask for it a lot. Don’t get me wrong, it’s also really good but I think the hot chocolate here is the star of the show.

This place is a must of Mexico City and it is also really cheap and with really good locations for tourists, so it won’t deviate you. And if you go in the morning it's empty and also a good heavy breakfast.

I’ve been at least at five different locations, there’s one at the downtown but it is always really crowded so I will share another location in this post. Also if you happen to be at Mexico City and wanted to try this churros, just search for the nearest one in google maps or your maps choice.

I go to this place really often so all this pictures are from many visits and different locations. The next picture is from a store near Paseo de la Reforma one of the most important and touristic streets of the city (This is the one I located in the map).

You can get a cup of hot chocolate and 4 churros for less than $4 USD and you can call it breakfast or dinner. It’s better to go in the morning because is less crowded and you can burn all those calories in the day.
