Fish from the Bavarian Ammersee
Today I take you to a fish shop which is located directly at the Ammersee. The Ammersee is with its 47 square kilometers the third largest lake in Bavaria and is located about 30 km from Munich.
No wonder that the lake is besieged in summer by locals, tourists and Munich residents for swimming and sunbathing.
Unique is also the occurrence of the new fish species Ammersee-Caulpersch (Gymnocephalus ambriaelacus) and the only real deep-sea char (Salvelinus evasus) in Central Europe, both fish species live only in the Ammersee.
The most popular fish from the Ammersee are of course the vendace, eel, char, pike-perch, perch, pike and carp. Half a century ago, it was still possible to make a living from fishing, and many fishermen still worked on the Ammersee, laying out their nets daily. Today, this has been reduced to very few businesses that still make a living from fishing.
One of these businesses is the fishing company Fischerei Schlamp which has been offering fresh fish from the Ammersee to its customers for more than 100 years.
The small fish shop Schlamp offers fresh fish, which can vary according to the season. Under observance of the closed season, certain fish may not be caught at certain times. The freshwater fishes trout, char, salmon trout, carp, pike-perch, pike, catfish, bream and others are offered whole or filleted by hand.
As well as the fish from the sea such as gilthead, Atlantic mackerel, redfish, cod, halibut, salmon, Loup de Mer, saithe, whitefish, monkfish, scallops, squid, tuna and many more, which are supplied from sustainable fishing from Bremerhaven.
Very popular are the always freshly prepared fish sandwiches, which are classically covered with Bismarck herring, matie or salmon.
To eat you can sit at a table with bar stools in the shop, in summer there are also two tables with chairs in front of the shop.
Most of the time I get the fish sandwiches packed and take them home with me. Today I have chosen Fischpflanzerl (fish meatball).
I will put one of them in a roll and eat it right at home, the other two I will eat warm with fried potatoes in the evening.
The quality is really excellent and I would like to recommend the visit to everyone who is once at the Ammersee.
