Traditional Turkish Breakfast
A traditional Turkish breakfast is a must for any visitors to Turkey. Recently we had the chance to go have breakfast at the city centre of Şanlıurfa (or Urfa for short).

Step Right In
So we got up quite late and by the time we arrived at the restaurant it was already 10am! Perhaps we call it brunch as it was the weekend. The restaurant had a casual cosy set up. The wooden table and chair makes the place feel authentic and traditional.
We either missed the morning breakfast rush, or the locals eat breakfast way after 10am
Where to start
Our friend ordered for us, we knew it was going to be breakfast but wasn't sure what to expect… until everything started coming in, ONE BY ONE.
First it started with tea, and then bread, and then yoghurt, and so on. For our Tasteem fellow reviewers I thought I'll provide more details about some of the items because you may have never seen them before.
- Honey
- Roasted eggplant (with spices) and tomatoes
- Börek (baked filled pastries)
- Sliced olives
- Persian egg & tomato
- Omelette with Turkish Sucuk (like salami)
- Clotted cream, or "kaymak"
- Plaited cheese, or "Urfa peyniri"
How to get started?
We patiently waited for our Turkish friend to start. Slowly we copied what they do...
- Grab the olive bowl, put some on your plate
- Grab the cheese bowl, take some
- Repeat until you're satisfied with what you'll start with
- Take some bread and start eating …

Verdict
It was really filling. Although the food was really easy to prepare, together they tasted great. Along with hot bread and tea, we could've spent an entire hour slowly eating this meal. It was an excellent way to start the day.
