A Brunch Visit to Dooks Restaurant Fethard Tipperary

After golf on Sunday I always like to go for lunch with my wife and daughter. We didn't grab breakfast and it was around 12:30 so we decided to go to Dooks in Fethard that has a good reputation for brunch. Fethard is a little village near my home town. It is famous for being the home of the worlds most famous stud farm. Coolmore stud. Dooks stands out like a sore thumb in this old style village but I think it caters for some of the upper class visitors to the stud. It the ideal place to go if you are just visiting.
So we walked in and it was an stylish open plan space with the kitchen in full view as like alot of the new builds.

They do lunch and then they do evening dining but you have to book in advance for this. The restaurant itself is a quirky seating plan with one big table to the left. I found different families were sitting at this table even though they did not really know each other. Some people might not like this style but I found it quiet nice. At one corner of the table there was an elderly woman having a deep discussion with her son. At the other end there was a family of 5. And then a couple with a yound baby in the centre of the big table. There was not that many tables in the restaurant for the size of it so there was plenty of space.
We managed to get a table to ourselves. At the centre of the restaurant there was a table with some homemade jam and granola and some other local produce which I found quite nice also. Ireland always have a great homemade market so it was good to see Dooks supporting the community.

Service was excellent. We received the menus as we sat down. We had our little toddler with us so we were given a childrens menu.
Below is the Sunday Brunch Menu

As you can see it is not the normal "Full Irish Breakfast" type restaurant. It is quite quirky and the dishes are well thought out. There just seems to be a higher level of menu here. I got the rosemary sausage the last time I was there and I was jealous of my wife getting the black and white pudding so I went for that today. Grace went for the baybay which is pasta in toddler language. As it was brunch we decided to have tea and coffee during the meal. The coffee was excellent quality. George pig was happy.

We didn't have to wait long for our meal but we had a quick game of peppa pig snap before it arrived.

Then along came my Butchers Daughter Black and White Pudding, with poached egg, spinach , potato chunks with parsley mayonaise. My wife got the same. She panics durinhg an order and just blurted out the same as me. It's a life long condition that she has to live with.

So as you can see the spinach is covering the black pudding. The light green parsley mayonaise was really tasty and the spinach had a lovely kick to it.
Grace has pasta with cheese on it. She was in a mood so not much pasta was consumed. In the end we decided to have some baked cheese cake for dessert. I forgot to actually snap a photo of it.

All in all the meal was really tasty and top quality and we were very happy. We bought some granola and homemade jam when leaving and made our way back home which is 15 minutes away.
So if brunch is this good , no wonder they are booked out for evening meal.
We will come back for this and I will keep you informed.

Howdy sir blanchy! sorry I need a redneck translation. What in the world is it? What's the black and white pudding made of? I've never seen a meal like it. lol. I know, I know, I need to get out more! any protein in that stuff? dang I wanted to see the cheese cake. Can you go back next week and get pictures of that?

And speaking of pictures that's a wonderful one of you and the little one but is that grey hair I see starting on you?

Black and white Pudding is famous in Ireland and the Uk . It is one of the foods in an Irish breakfast. It’s pork essentially. Black pudding is mostly blood. I know it doesn’t sound great but it tastes great! Yep that’s grey! Comes with the job! 😂😂

Excellent review. And I have a granddaughter who is a peppa pig fan! I'm not sure what black and white pudding is, or why it would be covered with spinach. That's was so cool about seeing these reviews from other parts of the world!

Thanks blueeyes I don’t know whether to commiserate with you or laugh about the two little ones loving Peppa. 😂😂. Pudding is pork ! Black pudding is mostly blood. It’s sounds really really bad but believe me it tastes really really good! 😀😀.

Looks good and quirky. Bit surprised you didn't have drink or did you have one after golf quickly. There is just no way by 12.30 you haven't had at least one.

Those were the good old days. I'm practically a tee totaler now.
