PURPLE IS THE NEW TASTE
Hiding at the back of Cempaka Square Club is a cosy cafe named Yvonne's Kitchen (YK), about 10 minutes from Kota Kinabalu City centre. Recently opened a couple of months back, YK is getting more and more regulars including myself who patronise at least three times a week.
What I like in YK are actually the "kuih muih" or cakes. YK serves delicious selections of traditional malay/nyonya "kuih" and my favourites are these three -_ Kuih Dadar Bunga Telang, Nyonya Kuih Pulut Tai Tai and Kuih Sago Kelapa_. Their taste are so purplely delicious and almost melt in your mouth.
But let not the purple armies of "kuih muih" stops you from discovering their main specialities as you can view from the menus below.
Among my weekly favourite is the YK Laksa (Sarawak Laksa)- it is one of the best in town because their prawns are big, I might be bias but I love those prawns! However, what really differentiate a Sarawak Laksa is actually the "sambal" or a kind of chillie paste condiment. I can assure you YK certainly at the top with the best "sambal" - a very balanced taste of sweet, spicy, sour and chunky bits of dried shrimps, you would ask for more!
There are other equally delicious food you can find in Yvonne's Kitchen like the set lunch serve with yours trully the purple rice!
Yvonne's Kitchen only opens during the day from 8am to 3pm but can be booked in advance for gathering or family feast in the evening. Banana leaves will replace tablecloth upon which the tasty food colourfully laid out served with purple rice on matching purple coloured plates. Even the drink is purple in colour made from Butterfly Pea flower which gave the natural purple colouring on the food. Purple is the new taste.
At YK, I even have my favourite spot to enjoy my food. A picture below was a selfie or wefie taken by my good friend Richard John, who had to agree with me that the Sarawak laksa was one of the best he ever had.
Yvonne's Kitchen is definitely a must try cafe for steemians. People like @danieldoughty @veenang @bboyady @Dane would not miss a place like this - It's only a matter of time. Steemians would be fond of my favaurite ___ Kuih Dadar Bunga Telang, Nyonya Kuih Pulut Tai Tai and Kuih Sago Kelapa__ they have all the colours of Steem logo.

Almost everything 😁. Bunga Talang or Butterfly Pea flower gives the natural food colouring. My winner for #pitchborneo2018 use it to make colourful Lang Tea.
