HK- Economy Rice Upgraded
Economy Rice concept is a simply eatery venue where customers have 20-30 variety of dishes to choose from with their plate of rice. This concept is widely available in food courts and simple setting normal coffee shops around town. However, HK Seafood Restaurant brings economy rice concept up another level to Business Class standard.
LOCATION
About 15 minutes drive from Kota Kinabalu City is the mix cemmercial and residential development of Beverly Hills, not in Hollywood but here in Bundusan area, Sabah. Its a corner shop, third block from the highway with the big red signage.
COOL AMBIENCE
HK has a very welcoming cool ambience that makes you think it could be an expensive seafood restaurant. But it's not. It's just an upgrade version of economy rice concept restaurant.
The place is nice and practically designed with lineup of welcoming colourful delicious dishes on the left as you come in and cozy tables and chairs on the right.
View towards the main entrance
The place is also very clean and the staff are quite friendly too. It is air-conditioned but it also provide tables outside for smokers.
THE FOOD
Over 30 type of dishes to choose from so one cannot complain what to eat. The problem is always how to choose. You feel like you want everything but can only finish up so much. Well, it's a good reason to come back again and try different dishes right?
Unlike many other economy rice setting, HK has presentable display that looks clean and hygiene. The food counter has 3 feet high glass panel that separates customers and the serving ladies at the opposite counter.
HK has one of the best selections of food that I've seen so far but the attraction would probably come from the layout and the ambience itself that make people come back to that place. I've been to another similar shop in city centre but it doesn't have the same effect although the renovation cost could be at par.
THE LUNCH WE HAD
At first we wanted to have a take away, but looking at the place my family and I ended up sitting. It's a self-service system where you pay at the counter for your food choices. HK serves NO PORK.
My wife, who's just started on a strict no rice diet had some vegies and taufu (beancurd).
I tried some chicken curry and nice japanese taufu. My two little bosses shared a meal with chicken wings and a glass of their favourite watermelon juice.
The food may looked simple but the taste was rich and freshly cooked. The prices are very resonable.
HK also provide catering services at a very competative prices too.
OVERALL REVIEW
HK offers a higher standard of economy rice in terms of taste, selections, setup and place, service, location and even prices. The economy rice was certainly upgraded to business class standard at HK Seafood Restaurant. If you have no time to cook dinner, HK would be the right place for take aways.
