NEW PLACE SAME GOOD TASTE
For those who used to patronise Acha's Banana Leaf Curry House behind the Petronas station at Towering maybe looking at a closed premises at the moment. Well, please don't get disappointed because they have moved to a new place with a new name but the same old good taste. Welcome to Gomez Curry House located next to the famous Cempaka Square clubhouse just a click away north from towering area.
LOCATION - Just 10-15 minutes from Kota Kinabalu City centre, Gomez Curry House is visible from the highway (Kota Kinabalu-Penampang Rd). The best landmark would be the Cempaka Square club which share the same junction to the left from the highway and onto the feeder road to Gomez.

THE NEW PLACE - It certainly far different from the old venue. Gomez is more cosy, bright white clean ambience that makes one doesn't mind to stay on longer and enjoy the food. Being a corner lot, it's more airy and the air feel fresh - the coconut tree outside is certainly doing its job on the breeze effect.
The renovation was simple of less is more concept but the effect it creates was enough to make us hang out with friends.
THE SAME GOOD TASTE- The real taste of aromatic spices is what I look for when it comes to indian cusine. Gomez Curry House is one place in town I can assure to have that magnet for your taste buds to explore and definitely enjoy. Althoug the name and place may have change but the fine good taste of indian cusine stays the same.
Two of my favourites have always been the mutton curry and Tenggiri (Spanish Mackerel) curry.
So, for my lunch that day I had rice on a plate flooded with mutton curry on the side and a portion of Tenggiri served on a silver dish because I must have the tail - that's the best part for me.
The mutton curry is really "to die for" - I'd be really dissapointed if they ran out of it. The rich aromatic taste is absolutely a crazy mix of spicy, aniseed and cinnamon-sweet, tenderly-hot, bit of tartly yet untraceble sourness and a balanced saltiness friendly to your tongue. And the mutton is almost a tender melting 'b****d' (mind my langguage) in your mouth. This is what I called a mature well-cooked curry that soaked into every fibre of the meat! And for that I had to order another portion.
Irresistible and sinful just to look at it! Best eaten with rice or "Roti Canai" (some kind of Malaysian-Indian bread).
The Tenggiri Curry was equally addictive. Cooked mild and slightly watery curry gravvy with ladies finger vegie that doesn't burdened the taste of tenggiri fish.
My fish tail was soft and flaky fresh and tasted awesomely spicy fishly sweet. I wished the same for the ladies finger but it was a bit hard to chew.
Nevertheless, the whole experience of savouring the colourful flavours was a moment I don't mind coming back into, especially with good company of friends who enjoy indian cusine.
There are other dishes available which we can also have them on banana leaf with choices of fish-based curry or meat-based curry pouring and selection of vegetables served with crunchy papadom.

In the menu you can also find various combinations and sets of delicious food that curry houses are famous for such as fish head curry, squid and prawns sets, chicken and many more variety of "roti' and noodles too.
Drinks are almost similar to other coffeshops in town but here you can get nice Lassee (yogurt) drink in different flavours, and their_ "Teh Tarik" _is superb.
A MUST GO - In conclusion, if you are visiting Kota Kinabalu, Sabah North Borneo, one must not leave before a meal at Gomez Curry House. Food and drinks are reasonably priced and infact I would consider Gomez more resonable than some places in town. The food is remarkably delicious and of aunthentic indian taste. It is well known not only by the local indian community but others who love this kind of food. And here is the twist - the cook is not even Indian but a local Rungus who was trained by one. The food is that good.....

I heard so much about this place. Perhaps I could pay a visit and try the food myself.
