Everest Diaries #4- The First Sight Of Mount Everest (8848m)

Namaste! There are no words that can describe the feeling when I first laid my eyes on the highest peak of this world, Mount Everest.

Mount Everest (8848m) had been a dream, an obsession and a driving force for me since I was 10 years old and 6 years later; here I was, heading out towards my goal- on a mission to climb Mount Everest! The first 8000m peak I ever laid my eyes on was Mount Everest during our trek to Everest Base Camp.

This moment was 8 years ago but I still remember it very vividly. As I was walking on a curved trail, Mount Everest revealed herself. As I laid my eyes on her, my footsteps were stopped and my mind went numb for a few seconds. The summit was being blasted by hurricane jet stream winds which created huge snow plumes. I had never seen a peak so massive and intimidating. It rose so high, it felt like the summit and the sky were one! It was a magical sight. Somewhere in my mind I thought, how will I ever climb this mountain? What have I let myself in for? I got on my knees, closed my eyes and I bowed down to the mother Goddess of the skies. Those few moments made me so humble and I realized how tiny I was in the larger scale of universe. My entire ego had been washed away by her grandeur and with all my faith; I surrendered myself to Mountain Goddess.

When you are trekking to Everest Base Camp, you are constantly surrounded by some of the highest peaks of this world. This video shows Mount Everest (8848m) and Mount Lhotse (8516m, 4th highest peak in the world) being blown by hurricane winds and towards the end you can see the ever beautiful Ama Dablam towering over the Khumbhu valley.
