The Tower

The Tower card is all about An Awakening.

It is a very dramatic card and my first one of the Major Arcana on the block chain. I always pause and reflect long and hard when I pull this card. It is one of the few cards that really is of 'the present' and here and now.

Here you see a tower on fire, being struck by lightning. The tower stands isolated on rocks and there are 'clouds of misfortune' against a black sky. The people are falling from the tower and when I was young I was told they jumped to their deaths, anything other than facing burning in the tower. The have not caused the fire, nor the destruction of the tower. They are at the mercy of the lightning bolt. One wears a crown, the other dressed as a peasant. Your social status or wealth does not make you immune to the change the tower card will bring. There are 22 flames seen, all representing the 22 cards of the Major Arcana of the Rider Waite Tarot.

The tower represents upheaval, change, destruction of some kind. It tends to be something tangible rather than spiritual. The lightning bolt will give you a moment of truth, of clarity and revelation. Forces beyond your control will lead to a transformation. The changes that you will experience as a result of this will likely be the permanent kind.

Expect the unexpected today, a change of plans or direction. Anything goes today, relationships, job, money. Usually one aspect is affected, so you may lose your job but meet the love of your life. A family member may pass on but another announces a pregnancy or an engagement.

A dear friend once told me that the tower is about our ego and its destruction. The destruction of the tower is about the importance of releasing those parts of ourselves that are a facade to ascend to a higher vibrational level. . These hidden aspects of ourselves ultimately serve to keep the loved ones in our lives at arms length. In times of stress they crumble anyway. It can be a painful process but to undergo a major shift of consciousness, or an awakening to a higher vibration it must happen.

Do not despair, with destruction comes creation.
