Talent vs. Hard Work

in #talent7 years ago

Many people wonder what is more important than the other between the talent and hard work. Well, talent is that ability that one is born with that makes him/her do something hard to some people naturally. A hard working person is that person who puts more effort into doing something and completes tasks diligently. Hard work is more important than talent. Many people are talented, but they don't go far without hard work. Hard work helps promote talent, and it can also develop new abilities. The following are key points that show hard work is essential than talent:

Hard work can grow talent

Hard work can help build and develop talent to levels that can surprise many. If talent and hard work are allowed to go hand in hand, the results are way better. This means if one is talented and doesn't put hard work, the talent becomes useless. Talent gives you a head start, but with hard work, you can accomplish your objectives. Hard work comes as a motivation factor to support and develop talent, thus hard work can't be assumed.

Hard work allows for more success

Many people have talents, but they are not successful as those who work hard. Consider talent as matchstick that makes the fire and hard work the fuel that keeps the fire burning. Talent makes the start of the journey to success easier. However, if you don't work hard, things may not function as you expect. This means that talent will make the start easy but with hard work, the journey will be successful. Many humans are not talented, but they work hard to complete their tasks leading to their success.

Natural talent tends to go to waste if hard work is not put

There are a lot of people with talents which just go to waste because they are not willing to put the necessary effort to support their talents. Many musicians, sportspersons, business people and others have faded away due to lack of hard work and putting significant efforts towards promoting and supporting their talent.

Hard work can develop new talents

In many cases, hardworking people can develop new talent or skill; this is attributed to hard work and the will to do something better. This new talent or skill grows and is seen as natural talent, but in the real sense, it is as a result of hard work. Many influential people in the world have achieved their status by working very hard behind the scenes, and we see their achievements openly.

For one to be successful, a talent on its own can't propel one to success. Hard work, desire, and persistence are critical when it comes to sports, business and in all activities you do. Don't sit on your talent and think that it will help you succeed, but put in hard work which is very important in life and you will achieve your dreams and desires comfortably.

Talent may fade away but hard work never will.

Hi - I agree that hard work is almost certainly more important than talent, but talent ('innate ability') also matters in many fields. On this note, you might want to check out chapter 3 of Malcolm Gladwell's 'Outliers: The Story of Success' in which Gladwell summarizes a lot of research done on the relationship between innate ability, hard word, LUCK, and success - an analogy which illustrates why innate ability does matter is taken from basketball - you have to basically be 6'2 to get into major league - that's the 'threshold height' - over that, being taller won't make you a better basketball player, from there on success is down to hard work.

The other variable Gladwell talks a lot about is the role that sheer luck plays in success (backed up with a stack of research) - he basically says you need talent, hard work and luck to be a success - the most famous example she cites here are those of Bill Gates, Bill Joy and Steve Jobs - all very talented and very hard working, yes, but also lucky enough to have been born at the right time and to have grown up in an environment where they had sufficient time to amass 10 000 hours of tech practice before their 20s...

It's a bit of a reality-downer, but I find Gladwell's arguments (that hard work alone is insufficient to bring success) pretty convincing, and also something of a comfort for the many people who try and try and try, but just get nowhere!

Yes, hard work alone may not be sufficient but can be sufficient sometimes whereas talent alone is never sufficient.

A few days ago, I had a good read here on steemit about the difference between working hard and working smart. I think that factor counts as a talent as well. Hard work is not much without a plan, some luck, good timing and who knows what else. Fact is, no work at all, will bring you nowhere...
Thanks for the nice post.

Very rare inspiration plus revelation @simonjones. Really, I've not just been informed, I've also been imparted.

You said :

Talent gives you a head start, but with hard work, you can accomplish your objectives.

It is very true.

Your matchstick and fuel analogy of talent and hard work drove home the point you were trying to make.

Once again, Great job @simonjones. I followed and resteemed.

Well that's some great inspiration for (us) not so talented, but want something really bad!
I like your point of view, and I will resteem (if you don't mind) :)
To help others to work harder, too!

Sure, no problem. Glad to help the hard workers :)

we have to work hard
