Taro is one of the non-rice carbohydrate source plants of tuber groups other than cassava and sweet potatoes that have a significant role. As we know that the carbohydrate needs from year to year always increase as a result of increasing population growth rate. Provision of carbohydrates that are only sourced from rice alone can not meet food needs. The ability of domestic food production from year to year is increasingly limited. In meeting the needs of carbohydrate food in the future there are various obstacles such as the growth rate of the population is still quite large, the conversion of agricultural land to non-agricultural, climate less favorable in agriculture and attacks of pests and diseases are explosive, while the level of consumption of carbohydrate (rice) per capita per year is still increasing and others
