Le kava, piper methysticum, est un petit arbuste appartenant au genre du poivrier. Présent uniquement en Océanie, on tire de ses racines une boisson cérémonielle, dont le nom varie selon les langues : kawakawa en marquisien, ‘ava en samoan, 'ava ou kava en tahitien, ‘awa en hawaien, etc...
