Shaka's Travel Book - Cabo de São Vicente
Driving further west from Lagos, one finally gets to the Cabo de São Vicente, the most southwestern tip of Portugal. On the more than 60 m high cliffs stands Europe's brightest lighthouse. It's cone of light is said to reach 32 nautical miles. Beyond the Cape the vastness of the Atlantic opens up. Just a few centuries ago this place was considered the end of the world, Finis terrae, by the normal people. The advertising slogan of a famous snack bar here on the Cape shows that we know better today, not the least thanks to the Portuguese explorers. Today you can enjoy the "The last bratwurst before America!" here.
Here a few photographic impressions for you to enjoy:
No fence separates the visitors from the edge of the cliffs. You really have to be careful where you place your steps, also because of the constant breeze.
Since the lighthouse stands on a 60 m high cliff, the tower itself could be kept rather short.
In a side bay a beautiful beach.
Aren't those inviting colors? Time for a swim.

Frankly speaking I really am not a very good fan of heights but no wonder I do like to see the nature of the vast lands/landscape from up top. Amazing shots indeed !!

Hast du denn auch Dein Bratwurst Diplom erhalten, oder verbat es ein evtl. vegetarischer Lebensstil beherzt zuzubeißen?
Auf dem zweiten Foto hätte es Dir passieren können, das ich mit einer Angel in der Hand durchs Bild spaziere, da ich zumindest früher oft dort unterwegs war.
Aber ist ja nochmal gut gegangen und dieser Anblick bleibt uns erspart.
Stattdessen kommen wir in den Genuss wunderschöner Fotografien, die fast besser aussehen als in echt! 😎
Natürlich habe ich mir mein Diplom abgeholt, eine leichte Übung für mich :)
Ein paar Angler habe ich tatsächlich gesehen. Gehört schon ordentlich Mumm dazu, sich da in die Klippen zu stellen.
Oh wow, these are some stunning landscapes (and seascapes). Some parts reminds me of the Punta Sur Nature Reserve on the Mexican island of Holbox. There are so many beauriful places in the world. I just wish we treat them with more respect and care...

Thank you! I can warmly recommend visiting Portugal. Very friendly people, a rich history and great food. In Lisbon alone you can easily spend a whole week exploring.

Beautiful landscape, I love the mix of cliffs and beaches. Portugal is for sure on my bucket list for countries to travel very soon.

Portugal is definitely worth visiting. I've been there the third time now and always enjoyed it a lot. I have a few more Portugal posts coming up.
