THE BLESSING OF BEING AROUND AND AVAIABLE

in #lifestyle6 years ago

When others have the same goals as you, things can get really interesting!

The life goals and plans of @papa-pepper and @bluerthangreen are pretty similar. We both moved from Wisconsin to Arkansas to begin a #homesteading lifestyle for very similar reasons. A major part of our goal is to be able to have our families each live together as a family, with the dad, mom, and children all present. In between jobs and working away from our families, we have been getting a lot of time to be working on our lands and house projects lately.

It wasn't until recently that I noticed how much of a blessing this was. You see, inside the family, it can be a huge blessing to have the dad present throughout the day and available when needed. However, if the neighboring family also has a dad home throughout the day, then you've got a lot of man-power available whenever you need it.

Here @bluerthangreen models some "man-power" for the future generation.

MANY HANDS MAKE LIGHT WORK

Just in the past few days, a number of situations arose that helped show me the blessing of having people available. For the construction of his house, @bluerthangreen had to unload a lot of bags of concrete by hand. Rather than having to do it all himself, he invited me over to help. Not only did the job take a fraction of the time (I am very strong) but we also got to talk and encourage one another.

He also wanted to put a support beam in under a tree branch to turn it into a swing set. The skid steer that @bluerthangreen has is a great tool for many jobs, and we have quite a few useful attachments for it. The auger is one that we purchased together. It was a good investment for me too, since trying to dig through the hard Ozark rock with a post hole digger is no fun at all.

Now, we can make holes for fencing, tree seedlings, or whatever else we want in a matter of moments. Having an extra man around to help change out attachments makes the process go a lot quicker and safer too.

Just check out the size of that auger! It sure is a beast! What a great day and age to be a homesteading in with all of this useful heavy equipment available!

We wanted to use the auger to make a hole for the support beam to go into. The large branch from the oak tree seems pretty solid, but by supporting it we can make sure that it is a safe place for the children to play. Soon the hole was ready, and so were we.

Even attempting to get the pole fully upright would be a daunting task for just one man. Look at how hard it is for @bluerthangreen on his own! But, with two guys available, he was able to climb a ladder to lift the end of the branch slightly and I was able to straighten the support beam. By working together, a difficult task was made easy.

Even trimming off excess branches and dead limbs with a chain saw while standing on top of a ladder would not be a good one man job. However, with someone available to help stabilize the ladder and hand the chain saw up to you, it suddenly becomes a lot simpler, easier, and safer!

ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE TOO!

Just the other day @allforthegood broke down on the side of the road. @Bluerthangreen was able to get his wife and children home safely, but the vehicle still had to be dealt with. Again, a call was placed and an available @papa-pepper was once again free to assist.

Thankfully the truck was able to start and @bluerthangreen was able to drive it on the trailer, so it wasn't quite as much work as we were anticipating. Still, to be able to come equipped to deal with whatever you may encounter and to have help available if needed is a huge blessing.

Even when people are not available in person, it sure is nice when they are only a phone call away. I was just about to go hunting the other day when I got a call from @mama-pepper. Our truck had stopped working in town. As I was trying to figure out what to do and trying to evaluate the photo of the engine that she sent me, @mobile-joat passed by.

Just a quick look at the photo was all he needed to know exactly what was wrong. He lent me a few tools, gave me a brief "how to" of what to do to fix the situation. Soon, I was in town and under the hood.

To say that I am not a mechanic is an understatement, and I was soon stuck! However, the @mobile-joat was only a phone call away and keen enough to explain everything to me over the phone. Soon, we were back up and running. This also is something that would have been impossible for me to do on my own, but having someone else available, even if only by phone, made it a success!

I'm not sure what else will come up or what life will throw our way, but at least there are some of us who will be able to tackle it together!

CHECK THESE GUYS OUT!

These guys are not only some good friends of mine, but members of our wonderful community. I was blessed by each of their posts today, and I thought that I might as well promote them here.

As always, I'm @papa-pepper and here's the proof:

My dear wild man, you are doing a great job and quite correct...we need more dads in our families in order to have a strong home (guys take note!!!!)...greetings to your family and do not forget to see my latest post for a crypto video bounty...happy weekend.

loving your work as always. You really are an inspiration. I am going to look at doing much more within my own property with a view to being as self sufficient as possible in the future.

Glad to hear it! Let me know if I can help!

Many thanks but I live in the UK so practical help may be a bit difficult. Although you are doing well on inspirational help. We have recently moved and now have a veg plot, so I’ll be planting that in the spring. I’m also looking at getting a bee hive or two! Then possibly a goat or sheep etc! So many possibilities.

Great post, true one man will not do everything but together we can accomplish any task and we can make our lives easy. Spread togetherness, love and kindness. Thanks for sharing.

Have a great day.

Thank you @chireerocks, I appreciate your encouragement!

is the soil that hard because of the cold now? or is it always so hard? Howcan you plant in that , and have you got harvests ? i think that all must be very hard, when the ground is that solid?

Yes, a lot of the ground here is rock and clay. The harvests have been amazing, but we build up the soil and work with it. It'll take some time to get really good garden beds established, but life seems to be a lot of work anyway, so it just comes with the territory.

only having to dig, make me feel yeah wright, i have a look in the supermarket :-) I am happy to know a few farmers just over the border with holland that can provide me with biological veges. When i was living in Crete everymorning i found lots of bags in front of my door. all with goodies , from my greek friends, own eggs veges oil... so used to that ! they just share out all they can not use on that moment. loved it.
