Berlin "The Little Big City" History of Berlin

in #history7 years ago

Today I take you to Little Big City in Berlin. Here I got to experience the city’s epic history through the amazing details of their 3D miniature people and I got to see the old and the modern landmarks.

It brought me back in time to the events that shaped Berlin today and the events that made world history.

I got to discover lots of “little people’s stories” too and what life was like living through the eras.

Little Big City is reasonably new to Berlin and it is a must see if you are interested in German History. I sure was and learned so much from my visit I also got a lot of great pictures just for you :)

Little Big City can be found directly under the Fernsehturm Tower in Alexanderplatz. I got some of these picture before going into Little Big City and you can see the surroundings before you go in for a tour.

Inside Little Big City

Some of the interesting facts I learned today from the Little Big City Tour

Fact No.1

At the end of World War 2 1946 Berlin is nothing but rubble hundreds of thousands of homes are destroyed, millions of people are killed and Berlin is nothing but ash. This is when the Rubble women are born. Many men are killed in the War or remain in prison so you won't see many men walking the streets during this hard time only Women grafting putting in the labour to remove rubble and start putting the pieces back together again. It was said that they removed "75 million cubic meters of rubble using their own hands" and they would become extra rations for this. So women basically ran the show at this time :)

Fact No.2

JFK President of the US at the time gave a clear warning on behalf of all Berliner's. Four simple words. "Ich bin ein Berliner" I am a Berliner. Basically saying "If you attack Berlin, you attack me. And the USA" he was the West's Golden Boy for this.

Fact No.3

The symbol of Germany's democracy burns to the ground that is The Reichstag Building. After the night of 27th February 1933 the Reichstag building is up in flames shocking the nation. It become clear soon enough that it is a deliberate fire and they arrest dutch communist Marinus van der Lubbe for starting the fire. After the fire Adolf Hitler starts making arrests and uses the fire to his advantage to detain anyone who doesn't share the same views as him even just the man on the street who has a different opinion is arrested.

Always good to learn about the history of any city you visit - it makes it easier to understand the place and connect with the people.

I know I learned a lot of German history in school so it has always been an interest and I agree every countries history is fascinating in it's own way :)

Oh Little Big City looks nice. We had no time left to visit it, but these pictures convinced me - we will visit it next year.

Yes it was a really fun school day :) Great you will enjoy it :)

"The Little Big City" is a good name for this place that showcases the history of Berlin in an interesting way. I love history and especially to know more about the WWII, I would visit there if I ever travel to Berlin. Thanks for sharing these wonderful pictures and information.

I thought it was very good choice of name :) and to see the seven eras through miniature sets and landmarks was also fascinating. Thank you for your nice comment

There's something similar in Shenzhen call "the window of the world", it's about the remarkable places in the world rather than history. They scale down every building.

Oh wow that would be great to see also... This is the type of stuff I love :)
