What does your rig look like?!

I am looking into building a nice new rig for gaming, and potentially for mining on the side. I am also considering building both actually, but we will see which comes first ;). That being said, I would love to see what you guys are rocking! I'm sure some of you Steemers probably have some beautiful pieces of machinery. Unfortunately for now, I am restricted to only using laptops! :/! Hence, my plans for a new build. At the bottom is also my best friends current plans for a new rig, let me know your feedback!

Right now, I am using my daily;

15" MacBook Pro Retina Mid-2012 with the following specs;
2.6 GHz Intel Core i7 (With Turbo boost enabled up to 3.6GHz)
16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Intel HD Graphics 4000 1536 MB
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M (additionally in PCIe)
500 GB Storage with a 100GB partition for Windows 10 through Bootcamp

This $3,300 dollar beauty lasted 5 years and is still going strong! (I just need to service the battery :'D)
And a cluttered desktop! (5 years of use and academic schoolwork here ;):

What I use for gaming strictly (Overwatch in particular) and which saw some of my beginner days of crypto-mining (usually gpu-based, or both cpu/gpu with altcoins that utilize CryptoNote);

16GB DDR4 memory (upgraded from the original 8GB) DDR3 @ 1600 MHz

And I have a good friend who just moved out of my apartment who is bragging and asking me to help build him a machine. This is what I put together using PC Part Picker... He just HAS to have his GTX 1080 Ti.... jealousy.
Any suggestions or improvements for his current machine? He wanted to keep it to a $1400 limit, which this just barely goes over.
