Winter Hike in Black and White
Hello! ¡Buenas!
A barred owl had been nesting in a tree in the woods by my parents' home in Rochester, MN (USA). Hoping for a good photo of said owl, I made four or five trips to the tree it had been using. Alas, it seems I am too late. I've only been able to see it fly overhead once. Still, I found some interesting images...
An old farm windmill has been partially reclaimed by the forest.
This is a rather large paper wasp nest. It is about twenty feet off the ground and, fortunately for me, winter's cold temperatures keep its inhabitants at bay.
And, of course, a fire in the fireplace is a good way to end any owl hunt. Brrr!

Muchas gracias :D
That's a huge wasps nest! I have a hard time keeping them from building nests all over now that I live out in the woods. I haven't seen one that big though. Shame you cant' catch the owl. I bet it's pretty to see.
Yeah, I'm glad that nest is nowhere near the house. To be fair, they've never stung me. The yellow jackets can't say the same...
That wasp nest isn't something I'd want to be near when the inhabitants are out! Your photos are lovely, I have given you a follow so that I don't miss anything in the future!
Thanks! I'll definitely be wary around that nest come spring. Quite the architects, though!
When I saw the fireplace I thought that was the end of the owl!!!! I'd poke that old hornets nest.....they will return, they are evil.
Haha. It's pretty high up. I might be able to hit it with an arrow...
