Who are the "moderate rebels"?steemCreated with Sketch.

Those of us who follow the events in Syria always recognize two different narratives, almost as if they were parallel wars in the same territory. If you read the news from anti-imperialist agencies you will see that the Syrian Arab Army is carrying out offensives against Islamic fundamentalists, extremists who steal and oppress people from the areas they control. However, if one reads from agencies like the Washington Post, the New York Times, CNN or the BBC, one would think that the same actors that others denounce as fundamentalists are actually "moderate rebels," Freedom Fighters fighting against the undemocratic regime of dictator Bashar Al-Assad.

But who is telling the truth and who is lying? Could it be that both lie? No, the corporate media lies, they always lie. In fact, the "moderate rebels" are very well identified and everyone knows all actors on both sides of the conflict.

These rebels are those who have arms, funding and training from the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Turkey and the Gulf countries (Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, mainly).

Daesh (Islamic State)

While today Daesh is a terrible organization worldwide famous for its atrocities inside and outside the region. Cited as the main reason why the United States is in Syria and Iraq, one never thought that he saw them as "moderate rebels", however, Kenneth Roth, director of Human Right Watch (HRW), of all, published a tweet in 2014, before Daesh gained the prestige it has today. The tweet reads: "ISIS in Iraq reportedly tried not to alienate the local population, unlike PM Maliki and his violent sectarian repression," citing an article published in The Telegraph newspaper, one of the UK's mainstream newspapers.

Today, if the director of HRW defended the Islamic State, he would suffer a hard backlash, but at that time Daesh was still a good instrument to attack the Prime Minister of Iraq, who is a Shiite and has formed good relations with Iran.

Jabhat al-Nusra

The Front al-Nusra, a.k.a. Jabhat al-Nusra; a.k.a. Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham, is also a fundamentalist group, frequently called the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda. It is led by Abu Mohammad al-Julani. If one recalls the news before the liberation of East Aleppo, the Syrian Arab Army, supported by the Russian aviation was going to unleash a terrible massacre against the "moderate rebels" settled in this area. These "moderate rebels" were the Front al-Nusra, among others.

On January 28, 2017, name change to Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham. They have positions throughout Syria, mainly in the province of Idlib and was one of the factions that were in the enclave of the Eastern Ghouta. They were also the main fighters against the SAA during its operations to recapture the Abu al-Duhur air-base last January.

Jaish al-Islam

It is one of the factions found in the Eastern Ghouta, to be precise, in the city of Douma, recently taken to fame for the alleged chemical attack which provoked a response with 110 missiles against several positions Syrian research centres and several SAA positions, of which 71 were intercepted by them. Operations in Ghouta were all concluded through agreements and cessation of hostilities. In each case, the different combatants agreed to be taken north to the province of Idlib. In the city of Douma, negotiations took more time. Due to internal issues within Jaish al-Islam, which caused the death of three negotiators, and also due to the conflicts that exist with Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham, the most prominent group in Idlib. After the restart of the offensive by the Syrian Army, it was finally agreed that the militants would go north.

Jabhat Tahrir Suriya

Another group operating in the city of Aleppo prior to its liberation was the group Nour al-Din al-Zenki. A group of its militants were the ones who beheaded a Palestinian youth who allegedly supported the al-Quds Brigade. On February 18, 2018, Nour al-Din al-Zenki formed, along with Tahrir al-Sham, a new group called Jabhat Tahrir Suriya. Following its creation, Jabhat Tahrir Suryia initiated offensives against Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham in Idlib province. Conflicts are ongoing after several exchanges of cities, offensives and casualties from both sides.

Free Syrian Army

Although years ago they were referred to as the mildest militants and the tip of the revolutionary spear that would annihilate the Assad regime, today it is known that the same jihadists of the other groups are in this one. They are armed and financed by the member countries of NATO and the Gulf countries.

The Free Syrian Army was the proxy that accompanied the Turkish Army in Operation Olive Branch in northern Syria, seeking to take the city of Afrin from the hands of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), this one consisting of mostly Kurdish troops (YPG/YPJ) and the main recipient in the conflict of US money.

On March 25, 2018, it was reported that two groups within the Free Syrian Army, the Hamza Division and Ahrar al-Sharquiyah, began fighting among themselves. According to the report, the reason for the fight was over stolen objects, to give an idea of

what the Free Syrian Army really is. After a mediation by the Turkish Army, an agreement was reached that brought a cessation of hostilities.

For years the United States was the air force of these people, they protected them in the media and they tried tirelessly to establish a no-fly zone so that Syria could not defend itself. One just has to remember the events in Libya to know what will happen if Assad were to fall. The two events have too many points in common to believe that what happened there is not the same as what they are doing here. It is a window to the future, just as Libya became three failed states, Syria could suffer the same fate if the hand of the American war machine is not stopped.

These are the groups that the West finances. Fundamentalists, thieves, murderers and mercenaries. Foreign soldiers who marched to fight when the most conservative members of certain mosques issued fatwas against the government and people of Syria. It is a war of aggression by other countries against Syria in an attempt to weaken the Axis of Resistance and produce a regime change in Iran. It is not a civil war, documents show that the United States for years planned this war. In a declassified document by the CIA it shows back in 1986 plans to replace the then president of Syria Hafez al-Assad (father of the current president). Several countries have claimed to have evidence that the US finances and protects Daesh including Turkey, Russia and Iran.

It should be noted that the civil war did not begin as a peaceful uprising that was hijacked by reactionary groups. The journalist Sarah Abed published in 2017 an article about the four months before the start of the civil war. This article shows that the protests were never peaceful (nor were the Euromaidan protests in Ukraine or the guarimbas in Venezuela). Likewise, journalist Eva Bartlett published several interviews in Syria with internal refugees and expressed the same: the "revolution" was manufactured from the outside. Then, if the uprisings were reactionary from the start, sending arms to the "moderate rebels" never took place, because there were never "moderate rebels" to begin with.

We should all follow the events very closely. The future of geopolitics is at stake here. If Syria falls, imperialism will strengthen and will continue its wars of aggression and regime changes throughout the world. But if Syria triumphs, then it will be a hard blow against Western plans. This is Stalingrad. What will come next remains to be seen.
