Miramare castle our tourists often compare with the castle Lastochkino nest in the Crimea, but Miramare is over the age of 20. Indeed, the castle is located in the quiet and beautiful bay of Grignano, far from the noise of the port city.

Enamored spouses spent only a few happy years in the castle, before Maximilian, with the support of Napoleon III, was sent to Mexico to be crowned on the throne there. However, in a few months the support of Napoleon III ceased and the couple was in danger under the pressure of the Republicans and the United States. In a short time, Maximilian was shot, Charlotte lost her mind and returned to Europe, she lived under the supervision of her relatives, and the castle was taken over by the Habsburg heirs, but their history was also sad. It is said that all the owners of Miramare died not by their own death. Nevertheless, the castle remained the Italian residence of the Habsburgs for a long time. Currently, nobody lives in the castle, it belongs to the state of Italy and is turned into a museum.

No less interesting than the castle, is the park, spread over a huge area of ​​more than 20 acres.

If we were at the castle, it would be a sin not to go there.

Exhibits are furniture, household items and interior of the Habsburg era.

Our tour was limited in time and in the park we walked very little.
In my opinion, the museum itself is less interesting than the park and if the tourists are limited in time, it is preferable to walk around the park than to inspect the exposition of the castle.
