Excursion to the Doge's Palace - Palazzo Ducale (Italy, Venice)

in #swmchallenge7 years ago (edited)

For me, a visit to the famous Doge's Palace (in Italian, Palazzo Ducale) was a mandatory part of the Venice inspection program, which can only be canceled if there is any obvious disaster or when the palazzo is closed for restoration. Before the trip, I repeatedly heard and read stories about the fact that the long queues are supposed to be built near the Doge's Palace, and if it's not to come to its opening - early in the morning, you can easily stand an hour or more.

Fortunately, my husband and I did not encounter such inconveniences. Despite the fact that we went to the palace in the afternoon, the entire procedure for buying tickets took exactly 10 minutes, and given that I was still "stuck" on reading the price list. Perhaps the absence of the queue was explained by the fact that we arrived in Venice in May - not yet at the peak of the tourist season, or perhaps the "regatta" that was going on in everything was "to blame", but we, I repeat, got to Palazzo Ducale almost immediately same, no problem.

For standard tickets for adults, we paid 32 EUR, that is, 16 EUR for each. And immediately I want to report about not very pleasant for many features of the survey: to photograph the premises of Palazzo Ducale is strictly forbidden, and ministers in the halls are distinguished by hyper-vigilance.

In some guidebooks, the Palazzo Ducale is compared to an inverted ship, but it still reminds me of a casket and only a casket.

Because of the desire to more thoroughly consider the richest exterior decor and see how the marble finish looks exactly in the sunlight, and not on an overcast rainy morning, I did not dare to go to the ticket offices for a long time.

How much all the pondered, to decorate the Palazzo Ducale! And columns of different sizes and shapes, and a patterned cornice, and arcades with stone "lace" at the top, and the same "lacy" balconies, and lancet windows, and all sorts of sculptural compositions on various themes ...

In the first minute of staying in the halls, I begin to get angry at the Palazzo Ducale Directorate for a completely ridiculous, unjustified ban on photographing. Around the most beautiful works of Titian, Veronese, Tintoretto ... Stunning paintings on the walls and ceilings, gilding, exquisite stucco ... Would have taken, any kind of a separate fee from tourists for the right to take pictures, and it would be all good luck! Or, say, they would forbid the use of flash, if the ban is really dictated by concern for the exhibits. However, Venice in this regard - an extremely inhospitable city.

In conclusion, I would like to say the following. Compare the Doge's Palace with the monarch residences and / or art galleries of other states - the occupation is absolutely meaningless and incorrect.

For its time, the Palazzo Ducale is unique and unique, and in all senses: both in terms of architectural ideas, interior decoration, and functions performed. To the Palazzo Ducale, I think, should be treated primarily as a museum of the anatomy of the power of the mighty Venetian Republic. And it is primarily valuable for this.
