A small walk through Venice.

Venice from other Italian cities is distinguished first of all by location. And it is located not only on the Apennine peninsula (mainland) but also on more than a hundred islands of the Venetian Lagoon (one of them is the island of Murano, where decorations and interior items are made of the famous Murano glass). Thanks to this, Venice became known as the city on the water. So in itself it is one great attraction and it's very interesting to come and see this wonderful city with your own eyes.
Venice is a port city, so you can see many different ships here.

The first thing you should pay attention to in Venice is of course its channels. There are a lot of them - real waterways, with many picturesque bridges.
The most famous and largest channel of Venice is the Grand Canal.
There is no embankment at the canal, so that the facades of the houses go straight to the water. Such houses are built on stilts. On the banks of the canal are the most beautiful buildings of Venice, including more than a hundred palaces. But there are only 4 bridges built across this huge canal. Including the famous Rialto Bridge.

Transport in Venice is also peculiar. You will not see cars here (the exception is the mainland part of Venice). Local residents move on motor boats and boats. The Grand Canal is run by river trams and steam-ships (the main form of public transport). But the tourist highlight is of course the gondolas - beautiful boats with the veselnym management.
I rode on a motor boat and a boat and, of course, on a gondola.

And finally I'll try to dispel a few common myths about Venice:

  1. It smells like sewage.
Not at all. I felt nothing of the kind-only fresh, very moist air. Perhaps in some days or even months there may be a smell of dampness, which is not surprising. But the sewer does not smell exactly.

  2. This is the most expensive city in Italy. Partly yes, partly not. Lunch for the tourist group here cost 30 euros against 20 euros in other cities. In restaurants take a fee not only for meals but also for cutlery. Souvenir shops are too expensive. But the pizza here I found the cheapest in all of Italy - only 3.5 euros, while it was the most delicious of those that I tried. Ice cream is also within normal limits for other Italian cities.

And the city slowly goes under the water, the water rises a few millimeters per year, so that the next generation may not be able to see all the architectural delights of Venice alive. Today, Venice is protected by UNESCO as a world heritage site.
Italians themselves are increasingly moving from Venice to mainland Italy. And Venice gradually turns into the power of tourists.
