House-museum of Mikhail Sholokhov in the village of Veshenskaya

in #swmchallenge7 years ago (edited)

All lovers of literature know the name of the Russian writer Mikhail Sholokhov. For his novel "Quiet Flows the Don", he received the Nobel Prize.
Several years ago I visited his homeland - in the village of Veshenskaya in the Rostov region and visited his house, which became a museum.
The house is located in the center of the village on the banks of the Don river. The mansion was built in 1949 to replace the old house, which on July 8, 1942 was destroyed during the bombing of the village In 1984 Sholokhov died, and in 1987 the writer's family donated the house as a gift to the state. On February 19, 1994, the house museum became accessible to visitors.
The museum is unique in that every thing here is genuine, the house is completely preserved. By the way, the director of the museum at the moment is Sholokhov's grandson - Alexander Mikhailovich.
The road to the house goes along the alley, planted with lilacs. I can imagine how delightful it is here in May, during the flowering of lilacs.

The house can only be inspected with a guide. Excursions are held every hour. On the first floor there is an entrance hall, a reception room, two dining rooms, a kitchen.
Entrance hall. From here begins the tour:

The grand dining room, Here the family and its guests celebrated the holidays and various solemn events:

In the far corner of the room is the most valuable exhibit of the museum - the grand piano of the company "Schröder", made in 1907. MA Sholokhov often played music before the war, he had a musical ear and liked to pick up favorite tunes on the piano by hearing. After the war, he did not sit at the piano .
On the piano are lined up in a row of dolls, symbolizing the family of Sholokhovs. The first, the largest, matryoshka is Mikhail Alexandrovich himself, then his wife, then four children, in the second row grandchildren-great-grandchildren. This is a gift from friends to the 70th anniversary of the writer:

Small dining room. Here the Sholokhovs gathered at the table on ordinary days. The door to the left leads to a beautiful terrace:

On the first floor of the house there is still a kitchen, but it is not exhibited.
On the second floor there are bedrooms and offices of the writer.
Children's:
Pay attention to the carpet on the wall. Our guide named it the second most valuable exhibit of the museum, after the piano. The handmade carpet in the Sholokhov family is from the pre-war times.
The conjugal bedroom:

Great cabinet of the writer. The armchair on the right is Sholokhovskoye, on the left his spouse usually sat:

On the table is Sholokhov's last cigarette, not smoked to the end, a clock showing the time of death, a calendar with the date of Sholokhov's death. The black frame on the calendar was made by his  wife:

Fireplace in the office:

Guest room. Many well-known and high-ranking officials of the USSR stayed here, foreign guests:

A room dedicated to the hobbies of the writer - hunting and fishing. "Hunting" room. Here is the arsenal of weapons of the Sholokhovs' spouses, but he was asked not to photograph. In the foreground - a heater kerosene "Valor", acquired by M. Sholokhov in England. The writer took it with him on trips to nature. The heater served to illuminate and heat the tent:

Small office of the writer, where he worked on his manuscripts. On the table is an open manuscript, the pen of the firm "Parker." At the window on the chair Sholokhov's favorite clothes:

The tour of the house ends on the first floor in the room "Nobel triumph", the exposition of which is dedicated to the awarding of the Nobel Prize to M. Sholokhov.
In the center is the coat of Mikhail Sholokhov, on the right is the dress of the wife, on the edges - dresses for daughters. In these clothes the Sholokhov family was at the award ceremony:

Copy of the medal:

In the garden and outbuildings of the excursion, another guide is already conducting.
Glacier. Sholokhov did not recognize refrigerators and kept products in the old-fashioned way, on ice:

In the early spring, the pit was half filled with ice from the Don and all summer there was zero temperature.

Garage:

Cars of Sholokhov. Black "Volga" served for long-distance business trips, meetings and wires of numerous guests of the writer. It was bought in 1964, and in June 1967 in this car M. Sholokhov met Yuri Gagarin, who visited the village of Veshenskaya. "Bobik" color khaki (SUV) - for hunting and fishing:

"Victory" of 1956 of release:

The car at the window - UAZ with a sliding windshield. The writer loved him very much.

The graves of the writer and his wife:

In conclusion, a view of the Don from the courtyard of the manor:
