Monument to Ovid, Ovidiopol

in #swmchallenge7 years ago

History is our legacy. Historical events teach us, tell us about important and significant things and events. To convey the importance of can be different ways: through historical literature, films, textbooks history or monuments. One of the important historical monuments can be considered a monument to Ovidius, located in the city of Ovidiopol.

Not many of us, unfortunately, know that the public Ovidius Nazon was a great Roman writer who created great masterpieces of important historical value. They talk about the culture of that time, and also help us to know more about what happened in those days, how they lived and what people appreciated.

But, as history tells us, Ovidius spent his last years in exile, because the policy of love, which he promoted in his works, went against the policy of the Roman Emperor, relative to the family and family values. That's why he was sent out of the country. The city of Ovidiopol was so named in honor of the ancient poet Catherine the great. So as it was thought, that precisely in that place and was exiled poet.

The most interesting thing can be considered that no evidence of this fact was found. Except that the ancient Roman burial found at the time of excavation. According to the conclusions of historians, at that time, it was decided that this burial is the grave of the great Roman poet, who wrote not only great works, such as "Science of love" or "Metamorphosis", but became a famous author in historical and literary circles, and elegies. That is why the urban-type settlement was renamed.

The importance of literary works is not only a historical value, as the history of literature tells us, the works published by Ovidius Nazon had a significant impact on the development of European literature. For example, the famous Russian writer Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin, in his time, wrote a long and abstract poem, devoted to the ancient poet.

The monument is located in a picturesque place on the banks of the Dniester estuary. Convenient location of the monument, in the square of the city, allows you to admire the masterpiece of every vacationer, and helps to participate in the understanding of historical events. The sculptor depicted Ovid in the pose of a thinker who has a thoughtful and focused appearance, and is in the process of the birth of another significant and great masterpiece that will benefit the whole world, and, most importantly, all the descendants.

As found out and proved by modern historians and archaeologists, the opinion that Ovidius was exiled to the Volga region was wrong, and the real place of exile and burial of this ancient Roman poet was Romania, the city of Constanta (this is its modern name, before it was called the city of Tom). It is worth honoring the memory of our ancestors, and respecting the historical events of our world, which not only can tell us a lot, but also convey stories about what life has been up to now.
