Holy Trinity Church in Dnepropetrovsk

Holy Trinity Church is located in Novomoskovsk, Dnipropetrovsk region and is a unique building, built by the Zaporozhye Cossacks in 1778 and not used in the construction of a single nail.

In 1773, Colonel A. Holovaty and officers of Zaporizhia Troops was made the decision to build a new Church with three altars for the Saints. Metropolitan of Kiev issued a permit to build a new Church. After the place for the collection was determined, the Cossacks began to search for a suitable building material.

They bought a couple of houses, then dismantled them, as decided to demolish the old Church. Then, in June 1775, the chosen place for the construction of the Holy Trinity Cathedral was consecrated, after which the construction began.

Especially for the construction of the temple was called to cooperate Akim Pogrebnyak, a master from Kharkov, who proposed to build a Church with 9 domes. After the meeting at the Council of respectable fathers, the project was approved and allocated for the construction of more than 2 000 rubles. So the master himself donated to the temple, about 17, 000.

In 1778, completed the construction of the Cathedral, and on may 13 of the same year the temple was consecrated. For the wooden masterpiece built, Akim was awarded a Certificate and received the title of people's master.

Three times the Cathedral was on the verge of destruction and each time he managed to escape from this fate. The temple was temporarily closed, converted into a Museum, and even mined, but, nevertheless, it has survived to the present day.

The very structure of the temple has quite a distinct look from all sides. Wall, standing on a high brick Foundation blends in with turrets – domes arranged in four tiers, 3 rows, and each row of 3. Intersecting between themselves, the domes are the support for each other and maintain balance.

The walls and dome constructed of thick boards, United wooden spikes. The height of the building is 35 meters. The domes are green. The entire structure neither inside nor outside has a single support or stand.

Inside the temple looks much more beautiful than outside. There is a large bright room, facilitated by high Windows in the walls, as well as a total of 9 domed ceiling which houses a pair of original chandeliers. After the second consecration of the temple, which took place on September 10, 1780, it was decided to finish the chapel and bell tower.

The idea of the structure of the nine towers is unique in that on which side you can not look at the temple (not counting the top view) you can see only 8 domes.

At the moment, Holy Trinity Church is under reconstruction, as after a long time of its existence the building was in disrepair, the beams were rotting during and require replacement. So the decision was made, and to throw all forces on the renovation of this wooden architectural treasures.
