Tossal De La Cala, Spain: From The Mountain, Chapel, To Skyscrapers & Beach Views =Worth The Hike!

For this week's travel posts, I'm going to showcase different locations of mountain hills with majestic views of the area where I live nearby. First in the list is "Tossal De La Cala".

Location & History

Tossal De La Cala or "hill of the cove" in english translation is a hidden gem located in the southwest corner of Benidorm, one of the popular summer beach destination of Spain. This hill measuring 80 to 103 m high divides the two beaches of Playa de Poniente (Poniente Beach) of Benidorm and Playa de La Cala Finestrat (La Cala Finestrat Beach).

This place has a fascinating history.
Roman and Iberian archaeological remains dated from 4th century BC , Iberian ceramics jars and other materials from 1st and 2nd centuries BC have been found here during the first excavation in 1944 lead By José Belda Domínguez. This place was once a military base also of the spañards.

In the center of the hill's view point is a chapel called Ermita Virgin Del Mar translated in english as "Hermitage of the Virigin of the Sea". It make sense as the church is dedicated to the patron saint of Santander called "Virgin Of The Sea". It is believed that the primitive hermitage dates from 1400. Destroyed during storms on several occasions, rebuild and preserve.

The Views

In front of me is the striking letter M shaped "Intempo tower" -the unfinished tallest residential skyscraper in Spain and second in Europe.

In the left side is the 4 star "Gran Hotel Bali" -
the tallest building on Europe's Mediterranean coast and behind this hotel is the Pu-ig Campana Mountain literally translated as "Bell Hill" it is the highest mountain of Benidorm.

the other side is the calmn Mediterranean sea views and the Playa Poniente (Ponente Beach) below.

How To Get There:

It can be access on foot or by car. Hiking for about 30 minutes from the ground to the top of the hill is very steepy but it's super worthit! I didn't just burn some calories but I also had fun. It was indeed a VIEWtiful scenery!
