Swimming Pool - Part 6 - Five Most Common Problems

Swimming pools are fantastic fun for the family or for parties, but they do require quite a bit of maintenance. If you own a pool for any length of time, chances are you're going to run into one of these five problems.

==> Chlorine Levels Are Off

If your chlorine levels are off, you're going to run into a number of different problems.

For one, people swimming in the pools could experience irritation in the eyes. It won't cause serious issues, but can be quite annoying.

Another effect of this issue is algae formation. Yes, algae can actually form in your pool.

==> Pool Filter Clogging

Another common issue is clogging of the pool filter. If your pool filter gets clogged, your swimming pool's circulation will get cut off. If circulation gets cut off, the water will grow stale and bacteria will have an easy time growing.

The filter can get clogged from leaves that dropped into the pool, as well as from little rocks or anything else that gets caught in the skimmer.

==> A Leaking Air Line

If you notice that your pool isn't circulating properly but your pool filter is clear, then that probably means that somewhere in your air line there's a leak. It's also possible that your pump isn't working properly.

You could try and patch this up yourself with sturdy tape. If you're not handy however, you may be better off calling a professional.

==> Electric Issues

Another common reason why your water might not be circulating properly is electrical. Make sure that power is actually reaching the pump before you look into repairing or replacing the pump itself.

Sometimes it's as simple as a blown fuse or turning a circuit breaker back on. You can try to diagnose the issue yourself, or call a qualified repairman.

==> Cracked Tiles

If the tiles on the bottom of your pools crack, it's possible for water to seep out into your deck. This could cause water damage, or cause a lot of water to leak out of your pool.

Fortunately, the fix for this is relatively simple. All you need to do is put some silicone in the crack. Once hardened, it'll be able to keep the water out.

These are some of the most common issues that you'll run into as a new pool owner. If it's your first time owning a pool, get the person who installed the pool for you to walk you through all the things you need to know to run the pool effectively.
