I don't understand. Why do they do that? Yes, we recently got a heat pump to combat the extreme heat 2 summers ago. But we only run it when we need to, and only to get to a less extreme temperature. Why run it all the time at an uncomfortable temperature? Is that common in the US?

It makes no sense at all!! And crazier still that even after having a discussion about it, they still didn't seem to care!! Using something when needed is a way better option than overusing it because you have it! I think it's common for people in the state to use their a/c 24/7. Some use a regulator to adjust the temperature as needed. I would say most don't make it so cold that it's that uncomfortable, but their bodies are so weak they are uncomfortable unless they keep it quite cool all the time. Sad for certain!
