SHTF Survival Steps [Part 1] - FIRE

SOSH 20 revolves around helping people prepare and survive for any unexpected disasters or SHTF scenarios, be it a zombie apocalypse or a natural one like a hurricane. Our first article will touch on one of the most important and needed elements of surviving almost anywhere in the world. Either to boil water to make it safe and drinkable, to dry some wet clothes or to cook a nice meal, everyone needs to know how to start a fire.
We'll also be transcribing lots of useful information that has already been stated on various websites like Reddit, Facebook and others, as learning from people more experienced is always the way to go when learning a new skill.

Survival Tips Concerning Fire:

1 - Always have an emergency way of creating fire that is guaranteed not to fail
2 - Knowledge of several ways to create fire using limited materials
3 - At least two ways of creating fire in your survival/camping kit

" In any situation where loss of body heat is an important factor, you don't want to have to spend time on a shelter only to die from cold because you couldn't get a fire built. So you need an emergency fire starting kit as well as knowledge on how to start a fire in adverse conditions.

I would suggest putting a butane torch lighter and a length of SurvivorCord... 620 lb paracord with built in wire, fishing line, tinder. Back up the SurvivorCord with some wax soaked dryer lint, cotton balls, fat wood, or similar tinder in case you can't find any (if you can't find any, you have another whole different serious problem but w/e). Wrap the tinder up in a waterproof case of some kind and throw it in your kit.

• Bic Lighter
  We suggest packing 3-5 Bic Lighters in your survival kit. The more the merrier, so stocking Bic lighters is also a good idea as they will be useful and can even be used as a bartering item if the stores run out of them. Here is a set of 50 lighters that should definitely last you quite a while.

• Matches
  Storm matches or normal matches will be a very useful commodity when SHTF. Be sure to keep them in a water proof container if you are about to head out. Matches work like a charm and can even be used for kindling, so make sure to have some stocked in case your Bic Lighters are damaged or not working properly.

• Flint/Ferro Rod with steel scraper
  Be sure to get good ones that will last. We suggest getting these ones here that are perfect for starting fires as the sparks can ignite some kindling from up to a foot away. They are 1/2 inch thick and 5 inches long.
