The city of Dakhla will see the Olympic flag planted on its land from 20 to 25 February, during kitesurf qualifying events at the Youth Olympic Games Buenos Aires 2018. After eight successive years when the Moroccan peninsula has demonstrated its capabilities organizational, infrastructural and technical, at the stage of the World Championship that is organized there (Cup of HRH Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan), the jewel of the Moroccan Sahara is now preparing to host a no less important event , namely the kitesurf fire baptism at the Youth Olympic Games. Combining techniques related to wakeboarding, surfing, paragliding, windsurfing and windsurfing, this spectacular water sport will therefore hold its qualifying stage Europe and Africa zone in Dakhla. The southern city was thus selected by the International Kiteboarding Association (IKA) at the expense of the candidates from Egypt and South Africa, confirming its excellent reputation with the world governing governing watersports slips. Mrs. Laïla Ouachi, president of the "Lagon Dakhla" association, told "Matin Sports" last October: "This is a very important step in the promotion of the city of Dakhla as a world recognized spot. It is also an opportunity to encourage young Moroccans to start kitesurfing which is a fairly recent and very accessible discipline. The founder and general manager of the site "Dakhla Attitude", one of the most popular in the world by kitesurfers, had meanwhile welcomed the "global recognition" of the peninsula: "It is a great pride than to be able to plant the Olympic flag in Dakhla. We will welcome more than 200 young people who will be accompanied by their families and who come to compete at the highest level in a climate marked by security, "said Driss Snoussi, who supports the training of several young Moroccan riders and announced the participation of a Moroccan selection in the event. In addition to the competitions, the organizers also offer a large event village in which different activities should take place: an art exhibition, kitesurfing courses, projects with local children and environmental education.
