An Indian woman died suffocating under manure cover as a treatment for snake bite. Are we really in 2018!!

This is 2018. And India is not a poor developing country. But it is really regrettable that still people in India are dying due to superstition and ignorance.

Devendri was gathering wood for cooking at her home in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, northern India. when she was nibbled on the hand by a snake. The 35-year-old ran home back to tell her husband, Mukesh, who chose to call the nearby snake charmer instead of a doctor and told the man to start treatment of snake bite.

The snake charmer Murarey took a look and said that it is a very normal case for him and he has treated a lot of patients like Devendri. Then he told the husband to arrange a huge amount of cow dung and cover her with them. After covering the wife with the manure the snake charmer sat beside her and chanted mantras. They believed on the snake charmer's word that the cow dung with consume all the poison from the victim's body and the women will survive.

But after 75minutes when the husband asked the condition of the wife then the charmer told him to uncover the body. After uncovering they found Devendri died. She was suffocated under the mounded manure and died even before the poison can made her dead and lost the keen chance of living by getting doctor's treatment. She has left five daughters in the hand of an ignorant, illiterate husband.

The husband Mukesh said to the media: "My wife went out to get fire wood and when she was collecting the wood a snake bit her. 'We tried some medicines, a grinded powder, and tied a rope around her arm. But the snake charmer advised us to cover her in cow dung, so we did. The snake charmer was confident he could help. We left her in the cow dung for 75 minutes. I never thought she would die, I really thought she'd survive, and it'd work."

"I never thought this would happen." The snake charmer, Murarey, said: "I'm known in this area to treat animal bites. I think the snake was a cobra. And yes, she died because she was buried." Mukesh is now left to raise five children alone. Police Station officer Anand Veer, at Kakod Police Station, said: ''We are not aware of this incident at the station. No one has reported anything or lodged a complaint.''
