AMA Supercross round 6 Arlington 2017 Race review

in #supercross7 years ago

Another crazy night of results! The 2017 supercross season has more drama than an action movie! Last weekend saw the sixth round of the Supercross series hit Arlington and things were turned upside down.

The night was plagued with mechanical issues in all classes which really shock up the standings. Especially on a track as fast and technical as that was. Was great to see them hit a dry track for a change though hehe.

Shane McEltrath started the night off in super fast style, he tucked his bike through the inside line on the first corner and took the holeshot. After that there was no stopping him as he quickly gapped the other riders and crused to an easy victory. Martin held on to take second and Plessinger managed to put a hard shift in to work his way through the rest of the bikes to grab third.

In the second 250 heat the drama was just starting! Forkner shot into the lead early on and looked strong but as the laps clicked off his team mate, and current red plate holder, Hill was keeping him honest just off the tail of him. One slight mistake from Austin towards the end of the heat allowed Hill to pass and it was a super close battle to the end. Even with a last lap slipup Hill managed to stay in front to grab the win with inches to spare. Forkner took a very close second and Davalos third.

In the 250 main McElrath looked like the weight of the previous weeks bad luck had lifted. He flew into the lead and quickly distanced himself from the rest of the pack. Even Hill, who was on the back of an amazing win steak couldn't match his pace. Then in lap 16 McElraths bike suddenly lost power and he was forced into the mechanics area. This gifted Hill with a comfortable win, especially as he was way off Shanes pace before the problems stated. McElrath managed to get back to the race but his bike had no power to race with and he limped round to try and salvage some points. Gutted for him...

In the frst 450 race Dungey stole the holeshot from Bagget just outside the first turn and then just took off! It was a confident statement from the current champion and he certainly looked one throughout. Marvin Musquin battled his way though the pack, litterally in the case of Friese who was slammed hard by the Frechman! As regular watchers would know Marvin is not a dirty rider and it looked like an honest mistake. Seely managed to get a late pass on Brayton which allowed the Honda rider to snatch third.

Mike Allesi, if nothing else can ever be said about this rider it's that he is one of the most consistantly fast starters the sport has ever seen. Unfortunalty He rarely follows this up over the course of a nights racing but man he can grab holeshots!! Tonight though seemed a differnt story and he was only just passed towards the end of the race by Bogle with Milsaps tucking into third behind him.

As if this much drama wasnt enough the 450 main was red flagged as Justin Brayton went down badly and was looked at by the medical crew. He proved to be ok thankfully and managed to line up with the rest of the riders. The restart proved to be just as eventfull as riders were everywhere! Musquin managed to get through relitively easily though and got to work putting in a very technical ride up front. Dungey was burried deep at this point and athough he rode an amazing race Marvin was just to strong. Webb was the first one into the mechanics area after bursting his rear tyre after grabbing seccond place. Then followed by Eli Tomac who dropped his bike on the landing to a huge jump and eventaly had his front brake line cut by the mechincs! Then it was Reeds turn to have some mechanicals and off he came! Musquin managed to hold his nerve up front though and managed to take his first 450 Supercross win of his career!! Well done and well deserved!

great stuff

Thanks mate :)

Webb was looking fast and confident. Guy's got chops!

And correct me if I'm wrong, but Plessinger looked to be the fastest guy on that track regardless of class. That one is worth keeping an eye on.

Yeah he was flying until he burst that tyre!
Different rider from the timid guy at the start of the season for sure. He now knows he can ride with the top guys :)
Yeah plessinger looked good and was certainly quick but he needs to work on those starts! I was always told there are two parts to a race.... From the start to the first corner and from the first corner to the finish. Plessenger has one of those dialed heh, needs to work on the other :)
