Sunset from the Terrace
Yesterday I was at a friend's house. Since he has a large terrace, it is a very comfortable place to sit and talk during the afternoons. As the sun began to set, the sky turned a very intense shade of pink and violet. I decided to take some photos, as the scene was simply too striking to ignore. In the images, you can see the local mountains framed by the clouds, which were glowing pink from the last rays of sunlight hitting them before dusk.
I almost always tend to lower the camera exposure, even when I am about to photograph dark subjects, just to capture the colors more accurately. However, when it comes to photographing the sky, using a low exposure is practically mandatory if you want to avoid blowing out the highlights. It is a technical necessity that really pays off when you see how it saturates the hues and gives the clouds more definition against the fading light of the horizon
