I know exactly what you mean but in my opinion I think it is fine the way it is right now. Like you said many people, who write really long posts, make it in some sort of a series of posts and yeah even though it is true and you most likely are not able to vote for a previous post there is also the option to reward the writer in a followup post related to the series.
