As for how Santa makes all the toys, he doesn't use elves but rather pays a minimum for workers in third world countries and has a bunch of factories set up in China, he makes the money to do this by making the toys year round and selling them to stores. Ultimately Santa is using capitalism to his advantage so that he can afford the giant mansion in the North Pole under all of the ice.
