Green pigs ears

This is another succulent that flowers and renews its leaves in winter. It is a Cotyledon orbiculata and the green version is a nursery cultivar called "Macrantha" - this means that the green leaves are not found in nature but the plant was bred to look like this. Pigs ears that are found in nature have grey leaves with red margins.

They are really easy to grow and I hardly ever water them in winter and never in summer, as it rains. This plant is very old and I have no idea how it got to have such a convoluted stem but I think that adds character to the plant. It looks tatty right now as it renews its leaves but in summer, all will be green and smooth although the flowers will be finished.

And I will have demolished the rest of the wall. It fell down years ago and was never repaired properly. I am going to find a way to hide it all, preferably with interesting bamboo, such as the ones that @white.tiger was showing us recently. I like the Buddha's Belly

Beautiful pictures!
It's good that you have not had time to repair the wall!
The photo of the flower on the background of this old wall turned out just excellent!
The old plant near the old wall ... I like it!
It is a pity to lose such a background ...

It does have a kind of charm with the cracks but I worry that it will fall down and destroy my garden

Yes, it will be very pathetic ...

Interesting to see these with flowers; I've only ever seen anything like this as an indoor/hothouse plant here. The stem looks very similar to a Jade plant.

=^..^=

Jades and pigs ears belong to very similar families. I'm always surprised to see these growing indoors but in your part of the world, I guess it is mandatory

I think the stems give it character as well. So many beautiful succulents to be found. There aren't too many here in Canada that can withstand our winters. It is just the beginning of summer here for us.

I doubt I could withstand your winters...

So thats the wall you were talking about! Yes the Buddha's Belly will screen it out beautifully. I love the deep red flower of the above succulent, beautiful!

The cracks are not even the worst part of the wall, the rest is just awful building. Succulent flowers are beautiful

Oh reallyyy... I have one (the silvery one) and I think it is wanting to grow some flowers for the first time.
I also have Oribulata that will flower very soon!
So it will keep growing the stem after it's not blooming? Good!

I like yours... so twisted :)

The twisty stem is fun, you should see the back of it. The thinner flowering stems will die and fall off in summer but the thick stems carry on growing more slowly.

Okay good! I didn't want them to be like aeoniums ;)

Luckily they aren't monocarpic. The main ones that flower and die are aeonium, agave and sempervivvum

I find your articles on plants very interesting and am trying to catch up on all your posts. That is hard to do considering my schedule. I did notice that you do not have an intro page. I was curious to know more about your interests and how you got started on steemit, but to no avail.

Thank you. I'm not into introducing myself but there are lots of biographical bits and pieces in there if you look

Very original plant.
The wall is cracked. This is because it does not make a blind area 1 meter wide to remove atmospheric moisture from the foundation of the wall.

It was a tree growing next to the wall that broke it

Perfectly beautiful flowers :)
I have orbiculata with white leaves. And I really love that plant.

The Orbiculatas are beautiful, I like the ones with 'fingers' too

Good to see your post.
