Integrity is beyond just being honest

In my last two post, I talk a lot about how we like to sidestep the truth instead of just telling things like they are. In my first post of the matter, I talk about how we like to sugar-coat everything ( find the link HERE.) In my next post, I compare it to telling the truth and our need to fancy up our words (found HERE.) Let's now talk about the difference about what it is to be honest from being a person with real integrity.

Integrity cannot be partial. In fact, it derives from the word "Integer," which means that it can only be in a full form. There is no such thing as an integer that is a decimal/ fraction, and just the same, there is no such thing as having fractional integrity. To make it more clear, consider this: When you tell someone the truth, you are expressing honesty. When you, however make something known to somebody that they wouldn't have found out on their own, because you know it could be detrimental to them, That's expressing integrity. You can always tell the truth and still have poor integrity, because being truthful is what you do to someone's face, while integrity is how you act while they are unaware.

The Moral Compass

Who you are, isn't necessarily a reflection to how you act in public, it is what you think about and how you act regardless to who is watching. The simple truth behind why we lie is because we don't accept reality as it is. If we truly believe what we do is a good gesture, than the need to hide behind a visade, crumbles. Gandhi didn't need cue cards to speak to the masses because his congruence within himself was indisputable. He just spoke as he knew and it flowed out naturally. Those with wicked and forked tongues need to keep all of their stories straight because who they are, changes with every passing person.

Why is it so important to have integrity? Well, for starters, like everything else in life, what you put your mind into becomes you. What you work towards is what you manifest within yourself. The more energy you expend on a project, the more energy you generate within yourself. The more integrity you express, the more integrity you create in yourself. This means that as you works toward being the person that people respect and uphold those values behind the curtains, that one faithful day when someone catches you without your awareness, they will then know your true character. If they find that you are exactly as you claim to be, you have earned a great ally who will take your word as truth even when others are working against you. If, however you are caught being someone else other than who you pretend to be, the disguise is removed and your respect level is lowered. That potential ally has now become someone who will only further confirm your duplicity.

Keep this in mind the next time you are to act without the scrutinizing eyes around you. You will always be caught off guard at one point. What happens during that time determines your future.
