Federer beats Nadal and Cristiano Ronaldo

World number one Roger Federer won the Laureus Prize as the best athlete of the year.

Federer outperformed the Spanish tennis player, Nadal, and Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo.

Also nominated for the award were three British athletes, namely driver Lewis Hamilton, cyclist Chris Fromm, and Mo Farah.

This is the fifth time that Federer has crowned this award after 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008.

Federer also crowned today, the Laureus Award for best return.

Last year, Federer crowned Grand Slam, Australia Open and Wimbledon.
